After sailing across the North Atlantic and spending a few days visiting Brittany and “Pays de Loire,” we aimed for La Rochelle, and what a treat it was…
Our Nautitech representative, Neomarine, is based in both Martinique and La Rochelle, and they spent a full day with us going through all the steps of receiving, preparing and delivering Oxalis Borealis. They have a technical team on site that will take over from the shipyard for a few critical installations (lithium batteries, solar panels, water maker, washing machine, bowsprit, downwind sails, diesel filters, rope cutters, deck washing system, etc.). We had the chance to look at a few Nautitech boats that were just being delivered at the La Rochelle port, and Guillaume from Neomarine patiently explained the whole process and answered all our questions. We feel like we are in good hands. The fact that Neomarine can take care of all the post shipyard modifications in La Rochelle, combined with their capacity to support us in the Caribbean after we make our first crossing, both played an important part in our decision to choose them and Nautitech. France definitely offers a different business culture from North America; I am sure they found us to be quite demanding at times, but it became the occasion to embrace our cultural differences and generate a very rewarding relationship!
Guillaume then took us to the Nautitech shipyard in Rochefort. We went through the manufacturing line step by step. We are not including any pictures or specifics in this post as we do not want to inadvertently circulate confidential information, but we were thoroughly impressed by the factory which seemed to us like the perfect mix of modern technology and customized artistry.
The ultimate high of our visit was reached when we spotted our boat, hull #160, three boats away from the end of the line. A lot of smiles, and quite a few proud efforts on my part to avoid converting this joy into tears. Seeing, touching and exploring our boat really is when these 25+ years having this dream of eventually sailing away became very real, and it was quite a moment. Nautitech’s “Elevate your Dream” corporate tagline sure seems appropriate.
See you again in July Oxalis Borealis!
